This has to be one of THE best holidays I’ve ever had, and I think I will truly struggle to ever experience anything more fabulous! My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights, and I almost had to be dragged out kicking and screaming – I did not want to leave!!
The accommodation is faultless – glamping at its best with everything you could need, but somehow still managing to retain the authenticity of being in a tent! The view from the bed of the phenomenal Waterberg Mountains took my breath away every single time! I am a very light sleeper to the extent I am chronically tired because of lack of good sleep – slept like a baby, through the night, every night. Never felt this rejuvenated in the last 15 years!
And then there were all the beautiful touches – the welcome sign on the bed written using leaves, the personalised thermoses, the hot water bottle discretely tucked in at the foot of the bed at night, the wonderful candle lit bath that surprised us when we walked back to the tent after dinner – who even thought it was possible to get THIS spoilt?
All the staff were extraordinary, the service unsurpassed. Anything you could possibly want had already been thought of and provided. Nothing was too much trouble, from the simple (like an extra quilt), to the picky (like specific food choices), to the downright ridiculous (ummm in case you hadn’t noticed, I am a doll, need I say more?); the request was ALWAYS accommodated, promptly and with a smile. A special mention of our totally awesome guide, Mr. Andre – he literally knew everything about everything! He was knowledgeable, hospitable, patient, fun and just added so much to the experience.
The reserve itself is extremely well managed, has a huge variety of stunning wildlife – from the magnificence of the big five, to the remarkable bird life, to the diverse flora, to the incredible insects, and everything in between – set in the literally the most scenic terrain you could imagine. We saw 4 of the big 5, the leopard eluded us but seeing white AND BLACK (!!!) rhino, herds of elephants including young, tracking and witnessing a group of hyenas taking over a territory, being only a few feet away from a lion on a walking safari and coming up close and personal with over 30 different species of birds and animals more than made up for not seeing the leopards – besides we need a something to look for on the next visit 😉
O and the gorgeous skies – magnificent sunrises, glorious sunsets and moonrises, dining under the light of a billion stars (and our amazing guide pointing out the planetary belt!) was an added bonus! We saw and experienced so much, it will take a small book to list it all!
And OMG the food!!! I haven’t ever been fed this thoroughly! The food quality was fantastic. With prior notice, specific dietary requirements are not only catered for, but the menus are still kept interesting – different every single day. Beautifully presented, plentiful and soooo delicious!
So in summary: stunning, hospitable, simply spelndid all round! Can’t wait to go back!!
